Legal Assistant – Complex Litigation

Legal Assistants (two) needed for growing law firm in Edina, MN, working in the area of complex litigation (class action, collective action). This is an exciting opportunity for a confident self-starter who can work independently and act with tact and good judgment. Assistant must be proactive and willing to take initiative and ownership. Must have litigation experience, including e-filing in both federal and state courts, and knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure. Must have 5 years of prior legal experience, as well as strong computer, proofreading and word processing skills. Organization skills and attention to details a must. Assistant will need to complete monthly Excel spreadsheets to track costs for cases. Competitive salary and benefits. Send resume to Human Resources Department. Responsibilities and Duties

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.

  • Assists the firm’s partners in the delivery of legal services, including preparing correspondence, pleadings, and discovery documents of routine to moderate complexity
  • Assists attorneys in preparation for hearings, depositions, and trial, including reviewing documents and prior pleadings for critical information
  • Manage attorney calendars and assists attorneys to ensure litigation deadlines are met; works to deadlines
  • Follow firm procedures for organizing and tracking client files
  • Work as part of a team to obtain the best result for the firm’s clients
  • Provides general administrative support for attorneys, including but not limited to organizing files, transcribing dictation, preparing correspondence, entering billing records and preparing expense reports
  • Perform difficult edits as directed by attorney and proofread edits
  • Perform legal research using Westlaw and other sources
  • May utilize software applications/databases to manage complex legal matters.
  • Preference will be given to those experienced with digital dictation, DM systems, Excel, and Word’s “styles” features.
  • Comply with all firm policies.

Qualifications and Skills

Must have 5 years of prior legal experience, as well as strong computer, proofreading and word processing skills. Organization skills and attention to details a must.
