Zachary J. Freese

Zachary Freese is an associate attorney in Hellmuth & Johnson’s litigation group. Zach represents clients throughout all stages of litigation.

Prior to joining the firm, Zach clerked for Judges Kerry W. Meyer and William H. Koch at the Fourth Judicial District of Minnesota where he further honed his legal writing and analysis. Zach also worked as a certified student attorney with the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office in Special Litigation, where he drafted appellate briefs, winning every case assigned, and assisted county attorneys in the prosecution of complex and white collar crimes. Before his time at the county attorney’s office, Zach worked at an employment litigation firm where he gained valuable experience in persuasive civil brief writing, legal research and analysis, and case management. From these legal experiences, Zach has developed a robust understanding of legal analysis and motion practice to assist clients through all phases of litigation.

Zach is licensed in Minnesota state courts. He graduated cum laude from the University of St. Thomas School of Law, where he earned Dean’s Award for his legal analysis and writing in Law Skills II. Zach also served as senior editor of the University of St. Thomas Law Journal. He obtained his B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and his M.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, both in history.

In his free time, Zach spends time with his family and friends, is a voracious reader of historical non-fiction and science fiction, enjoys biking and being outdoors, and is an unapologetic fan of the Wisconsin Badgers.
