In what area of law do you practice and why did you choose this?
I practice commercial litigation and have handled employment, contract, and real estate disputes. I went into law school thinking I was going to be a transactional attorney (and avoid the courtroom) but I took one oral advocacy case and became hooked on the idea of arguing on behalf of a client and winning.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a veterinarian but when I got to college I realized science was not one of my strong suits.
What would you be doing if you weren’t a lawyer?
My dream job would be a forensic medical examiner or a detective (I am very interested in true crime), but again I am terrible at science.
What is the best career advice you have received?
When preparing for my first oral argument, another attorney at the firm gave me the advice of “think to yourself, ‘how would a lawyer act in this situation?’ and just act like that.” I know it sounds simple but you are going to get nervous and sometimes the best you can do is just faking the confidence until you find your stride.
What is on your bucket list?
Skydiving in Switzerland.
What is your favorite vacation spot?
I absolutely love Scottsdale for the weather, the food, and the hiking.
What is your favorite Twin Cities restaurant?
You have to try Hola Arepa, Boludo, or Yumi Sushi!
When you are not working, what would people find you doing?
Trying new restaurants near my house in Northeast, traveling whenever I have the chance, and currently planning my wedding.
What is a recent good book you read?
Finally got around to reading “Where the Crawdads Sing” and it was incredible.
