Home Partners of America and Pathlight Property Management Investigation

BACKGROUND

Hellmuth & Johnson has filed class action lawsuits seeking to represent classes of Minnesota, Washington, Colorado, Illinois, Maryland and Georgia tenants who have entered into misleading and onerous form leases with Home Partners of America and Pathlight Property Management. The complaints, available at the links below, assert claims on behalf of past and former tenants who are renting or have rented from Home Partners and Pathlight. In general, the lawsuits seek return of fees charged to tenants, as well as any other money damages provided by a state’s law. The remedies available to tenants may differ from state-to-state.

In October 2023, the Minnesota district court certified a class of Minnesota tenants defined as:

  • Damages Class: All persons within the State of Minnesota who, since March 1, 2016, paid rent or other fees to Defendants pursuant to a lease.
  • Injunctive Class: All persons within the State of Minnesota who, since March 1, 2016, have entered into a lease with Defendants.

More information about the class certification is forthcoming.

Plaintiffs and the proposed classes are represented by Anne T. Regan, Lindsey L. Larson, Amy Ortega and Nathan D. Prosser of Hellmuth & Johnson, in Minnesota. Hellmuth & Johnson attorneys have extensive experience in complex litigation in federal and state courts across the country and have been appointed as lead counsel in numerous class actions.
