Anna Jaques Hospital Data Breach Investigation

Anna Jaques Hospital recently provided notice letters to its patients confirming it suffered a data breach a year ago, on December 25, 2023, in which a ransomware attacked allowed cybercriminals to gained access and exposed approximately 316,000 patients’ sensitive personal information maintained on its networks. Anna Jaques Hospital has now disclosed that in 2023, around Christmas time, it learned that a cyberattack had impacted its systems which were immediately taken offline and law enforcement was alerted.

A leading third-party cybersecurity expert  was engaged to investigate the data breach and to determine the extent of the unauthorized activity, and whether any patient data had been exposed or stolen. The cybercriminals subsequently leaked data samples of Anna Jaques Hospital patients allegedly stolen on their dark web extortion website, threatening to exposed the highly sensitive patient information in the ransom demand were not met.  Ultimately, the cybercriminals released all of the Anna Jaques Hospital patient data on January 26, 2024 when the ransomware demand was not met.

The highly sensitive patient information that was compromised in the data breach includes: patient names, demographic information, medical information, health insurance information, Social Security numbers, drivers’ license numbers, financial information, and other personal or health information provided to Anna Jaques Hospital.
