Brendan Kenny Obtains Reinstatement of Market’s Participation in SNAP

Hellmuth & Johnson attorney Brendan Kenny won reinstatement of an African-owned market’s participation in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), following the United States Department of Agriculture’s disqualification of the market based on alleged “trafficking” of SNAP benefits.

When the USDA disqualifies a SNAP retailer from participating in SNAP, the results can be devastating for the retailer and the local community. On February 16, 2024, Mr. Kenny secured for his client, an African-owned market serving a predominantly African community, the reinstatement of its ability to participate in SNAP. This not only saved the market from shutting its doors, but aided the economically disadvantaged community it serves.
