COVID-19: What Condo/HOA Boards Should Know About Virtual Meetings

“Our stay-at-home order in Minnesota went into place in late March,” states Phaedra J. Howard, a partner specializing in community association law at Hellmuth & Johnson PLLC in Edina, Minn. “Before that, I had one board that was talking about trying to do meetings as long as participants spread out in the room and, with the board and manager, had fewer than 10 people present. I said, ‘But what if your homeowners show up, because they’re allowed to?’ I didn’t hear back about how that board proceeded.

“As far as I know, everybody’s doing virtual meetings,” she notes. “People are doing Zoom and Webex, and that’s working from what I’m hearing.”
