Jack F. Edell

Jack is an attorney with experience in every stage of litigation, including both jury and bench trials. He is competitive by nature and leaves every ounce of commitment in the courtroom. Jack has represented businesses and individuals in diverse areas of law, including banking and lending, commercial and residential real estate transactions, construction litigation, business litigation, repossession, contract disputes and insurance coverage disputes. Since 2023, Jack has co-authored chapters in Minnesota Deskbooks on topics of priorities of insurance coverage and structured settlement agreements.

Before joining Hellmuth & Johnson, Jack was a trial attorney at a mid-sized Minneapolis law firm. He learned the ropes of litigation quickly, taking numerous matters to trial within his first years of practice.

Jack graduated from Mitchell Hamline School of Law, cum laude, and was elected to serve as an Executive Online Editor for the Mitchell Hamline Law Review. Before starting his legal career, Jack worked for a medical device company utilizing his biochemistry degree from St. John’s University.

EXPERIENCE

  • 2024: Successfully argued motion for temporary restraining order on behalf of local bank restricting the sale of real property assets of debtor worth over $20 million
  • Received a favorable jury verdict after four-day trial in Mower County, Minnesota. As defense counsel, limited Plaintiff to $52,000 after a $1.75 million request during closing arguments. Craig and Theresa Jacobson vs. Ricky Smith, et al., 50-CV-20-1977.
  • Secured summary judgment dismissal on all claims for owner of commercial real estate. JoLynn L. Frandrup vs Realty Income Corporation, et al., 19HA-CV-21-1132.
  • Successfully showed at trial that insurance application contained material misrepresentations. Auto-Owners Insurance Company vs Joseph Mancuso, et al., 46-CV-21-1093.
  • Obtained favorable settlement for owner of vehicle that was wrongfully repossessed by tow yard for over six months in violation of Minn. Stat. 168B.06. EAN Holdings, LLC vs Berg’s Towing & Repair, LLC, 25-CV-23-975.
